Description of function

We have an opportunity for a Subsea Mechanical Engineer to work with our client in Aberdeen as part of their Subsea Engineering Department. The team are responsible for developing & supporting all activities from initial engineering through detailed design, procurement, manufacture, test and final installation of subsea oil and gas production equipment.

Job responsibilities
  • Commitment to Company HSE and Quality Policies
  • With the support and guidance of senior/lead engineers -
  • Carry out mechanical engineering and design for subsea oilfield operations
  • Carry out all aspects of onshore / offshore engineering work
  • Prepare / review calculations and perform mechanical / structural analysis as required
  • Preparation / review of specifications for procurement / manufacture / fabrication of appropriate items and equipment
  • Prepare / review onshore Assembly / test / FAT and offshore operations procedures
  • Work with design / drafting personnel for the development of engineering / manufacture drawings
  • Sub-contract and Vendor liaison, management and expediting
  • Technical support of onshore assembly / testing as required
  • Technical support of offshore operations as required
  • Reporting to Company and client

Experience & Competencies

  • Up to 5 years’ experience in the subsea engineering, equipment and operations sector.
  • Materials engineering awareness
  • Capable of producing detailed design calculation packages
  • Performing computer-based analysis (e.g. ANSYS) finite element analysis and the like
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry mechanical, piping, subsea codes and standards
  • Previous experience of the design manufacture, testing and installation / operation of subsea production facilities incl. subsea wellhead / xmas trees desirable
  • CAD drafting capability desired, must have the ability to translate designs into drawings for manufacture and installation / operation working with design and drafting personnel
  • Vessel based experience; desirable
  • Previous experience of installation of subsea Xmas Tree / Choke / Intervention equipment from a Rig / DSV / RSV highly desirable
  • Electrohydraulic controls experience highly desirable

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Candidates should ideally be degree qualified in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Candidates with HND or HNC qualification or similar will be considered, subject to demonstrable track record.
  • Offshore survival certificate
  • Relevant medical certification
  • MIST all desirable not mandatory


  • Regular UK Driving License
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status desirable
  • Self-starter able to work alone and set targets and priorities in support of the wider business /
  • project goals
  • Willingness for potential overseas travel to manufacturing and offshore sites
