Description of function

The Construction Manager is responsible for the safe and successful execution of assigned construction projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover.

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the Construction Manager will manage all site construction activities, contractors and resources to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards.

The role is supported by the Project Services Manager and Project Services Team, who provide planning, scheduling, cost control, reporting and project administration throughout the project lifecycle.

Objective - To safely deliver assigned construction projects in accordance with approved scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements while maintaining compliance with the company’s policies, procedures and client expectations.

 

Job responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of assigned construction projects from mobilisation through to commissioning and handover.
  • Lead and coordinate contractors, subcontractors and site personnel to achieve project objectives safely, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, company procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks and implement corrective actions to maintain project performance.
  • Work closely with the Project Services Team to maintain project schedules, cost forecasts, reporting and change management.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSSE and QA/QC to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Attend and lead construction meetings, provide regular progress updates and maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Ensure all inspections, testing, commissioning, as-built documentation and handover activities are completed to the required standard.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and ensure contractors comply with the companies and client HSSE requirements.

Authority -

The Construction Manager is authorised to:

  • Direct day-to-day construction activities.
  • Coordinate contractor resources and site works.
  • Stop unsafe work.
  • Recommend corrective actions where project objectives are at risk.
  • Escalate commercial, technical or contractual issues to the Project Delivery Manager.

 

CAPABILITY PROFILE; KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline. Industry experience will be considered in lieu of academic qualification.
  • Minimum 15 years' construction experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or Construction Management role.
  • Experience delivering industrial, marine, infrastructure or oil & gas projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Sound understanding of construction management, HSSE and quality systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction schedules.
